Day of Service

Saturday, Aug. 22

Welcome Week is not only an opportunity to learn about VCU and meet new people, it’s also a chance to get involved in the Greater Richmond community. The Welcome Week Day of Service offers several different ways to become involved, including off-campus service projects, on-campus service projects and on-campus information and orientation sessions for local nonporfit agencies.

Day of Service
How to Register

Complete the form, select the projects you want to participate in and click on the "Submit Program Registration" button at the very bottom of the page. Someone from the Welcome Week staff will get back to you with more details regarding the events you registered for.

A Note on Committment
You may sign up for more than one program, as long as the times do not conflict with each other. Once you sign up to volunteer, please follow through on your obligation. VCU’s community partners are planning the day’s work, and materials based on the number of people we tell them are coming. For every student that does not show up, a lot fewer individuals in need are served, and needed outdoor work goes undone.

For Returning Students

Are you a returning student interested in serving as a Project Leader during the day of service?

Responsibilities of a Project Leader include: directing and accompanying volunteers to the project locations, acting as a liason between the host agency and the volunteers, and communicating any problems with the designated Welcome Week committee member.

Project leaders must be available all day on August 22, 2009. Please complete the Project Leader Application and e-mail it to Beth Ward a bhward@vcu.edu.
